Abstract

A comparative analysis of the constructed concepts and contemporary interpretations of the Prophet's Mi'raj (Ascension) reveals a clearer and deeper understanding of the event. While Muslims unanimously agree on the reality of Mi'raj, Islamic sources present differing views on various aspects of it, indicating the diversity of perspectives over time. This study aims to explore how views on Mi'raj evolved in its early stages and after three centuries and what factors influenced the development of these perspectives. By comparing the views of scholars from the first and second halves of the third century AH, the study examines the "what," "why," and "how" of the event. Findings suggest that after the acceptance of the Mi'raj’s possibility and nature, the focus shifted to understanding its reasons and benefits. Over time, views on Mi'raj transformed from accusations of falsehood and magic to recognizing it as a miracle, a direct revelation, a crucial component of the emerging Islamic faith, and a valid reference for addressing doubts. Factors influencing these views include ancient Arab beliefs, the acceptance of the Prophet's prophethood, political and social conditions, and religious motivations.
