Many interpretative problems of the Quran cannot be correctly understood without referring to the sacred texts. One of these verses is the verse of Al-Dhar. Nearly all Muslim commentators regard this verse as a general one pertaining to mankind, while only a few interpreters have viewed it as referring to a specific group. However, they did not clarify which specific group they were referring to, what historical and ethnic context they belonged to, or how they testified to God's lordship. They merely stated that they were a particular group or, at most, added that this group belonged to the Children of Israel.
The research presented in this paper indicates that the verse of Al-Dhar specifically refers to the Children of Israel during the time of the Prophet Joshua. Joshua summoned all the tribes of the Children of Israel of his time and took a covenant from them not to worship idols like their ancestors but to worship only God. He called upon them as witnesses in this matter, and they acknowledged, "We bear witness."
The research method used in this paper is intertextual; that is, it compares the text of the Quran with the Holy book.
