the uses of "khums" and stated that three shares are for God, the Messenger, and relatives, and three shares are for the poor, orphans, and the wayfarer. A study of the later Shiite interpretations in explaining the meaning of "the poor," "orphans," and "the wayfarer" indicates a difference of opinion among the commentators, such that some have considered the allocation of half of the khums to the needy of the Banu Hashim as a misinterpretation of the verse, which, in addition to creating a mentality of racial discrimination and injustice towards other needy people, is in conflict with other verses of the Holy Quran and some narrations. Given that this interpretative difference of opinion is not just an abstract discussion and can have a significant impact even on the rulings related to khums, this study aims to compare the opinions of two great later commentators, Mohammad Hossein Tabataba'i and Mohammad Sadeghi Tehrani, and evaluate the foundations of their arguments. The findings of this study indicate that the principles argued by Mohammad Sadeghi Tehrani are more consistent with the Holy Quran and hadiths.
